ICOM SEEICOM SEE is Regional alliance of ICOM for South East Europe. It was founded on the initiative of heritage protection professionals who wanted to improve connections between the professionals, museums and related institutions in the region so to improve condition in the field of heritage care through shared strategy an activities. The initiators agreed that the specific cultural circle of the region deals with similar problems and that could be more easily and effectively resolved through a joint action. At first it related to the Balkans but as the projects developed, neighboring countries have accessed. Now ICOM SEE embraces Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova. BOARDAll the decisions of ICOM SEE are made and approved by ICOM SEE Board. Each ICOM national committee of a member country appoints two delegates for the ICOM SEE Board – a member and his deputy. The Board meets once a year on a Regular Annual Meeting to discuss various issues related to its activities and development of shared projects. Annual meetings are held in various countries in the region and organized by National Committees of ICOM. AIMSThe initiative for foundation of ICOM SEE came out of the idea to build stronger influence both internationally and locally and to promote heritage care among wider public and responsible institutions in the local and national framework. Besides, joint activities of professionals from the region would contribute to their equal participation and representation in the field of heritage protection on international level. STRATEGYOn the Initial meeting for foundation of ICOM SEE, the Board have accepted long term project Revitalization of Cultural and Natural Heritage in the Balkan region as a platform for its activities. The author of the project is Mila Popović Živančević, PhD who was elected president of ICOM SEE on the initial assembly. The Revitalization project is based on Integrative approach to all heritage categories and methodology of preventive conservation. TASKSICOM SEE tasks are to implement regional strategy, to contribute to revitalization of SEE heritage and to set and permanently improve methodology of revitalization (through conferences, publications, projects, educative programs and related web sites). ICOM SEE potential lies in strong desire of both individuals and institutions who take part in regional activities, to share professional efforts towards improvement in the field. Besides, our potential lies in similarity of languages, cultures, mentality, social background and related institutional development close connections between the countries, – all these factors make ICOM SEE coherent group of professionals. |
